    GREAT MUSIC. PERIOD.

I used to wear glasses when I was a kid. As much a I used to wear glasses when I was a kid. As much as they were made to help my vision, in hindsight, I don't think they helped me see anything. In a way they worked more as a filter, hiding those opportunities that unknowingly lay before me, or, did they 'work' more as a shield, protecting me from questionable situations and creepy people? Hard to say which answer is right, but perhaps it was a mixture of both. The miracle that is Lasik surgery allowed me to get rid of that cursed eyewear years ago, and I dare say that things really did change for the better after that. I now had a clarity and a way forward that appeared like a gift, and the rewards from that new vision continue on to this day. Have you ever had something or someone you relied on that was supposed to help you, but in retrospect you realize that they were holding you back? In my work I always talk about stepping back from what we are working on, to zoom out to see the whole picture. One can spend so much time on minutiae that we forget to consider the landscape where the work is going to live. Those little details that seem so important right now won't mean a thing to those that are only there to see the whole picture. Embrace the distance. You may be surprised at what you really see. #creativity #perspective #artist
The longer you work at something, hopefully you le The longer you work at something, hopefully you learn a few things. Two lessons I’ve learned is 1. Keep it simple 2. Listen first, speak second. Just focusing on these two ideas blocks out so much nonsense that you can get to your goal with far less stress and anxiety. As ‘fun’ as ‘complicated’ can be, I prefer getting to my destination (mentally, physically or figuratively) with as little drama as possible. What are some of the things you’ve learned that you didn’t know when you started? #progress #simple #listen
Mixing and mastering an album of piano and strings Mixing and mastering an album of piano and strings always makes for a great day. There was a deadline, and I have to admit I appreciate a deadline. Makes for a better end result. Too many projects just go on forever and that does not make the record better. Options and endless tweaking can definitely be harmful in the wrong hands. Write the song. Make the record. Put it out. Repeat #progress #deadline #music
The Man! Jay Messina, ladies and gentlemen. Legend The Man! Jay Messina, ladies and gentlemen. Legendary engineer, who certainly inspired me. His name was on all those records I wore out when I was a kid, and whom I got the idea of what an engineer was in the first place, seeing his name in those liner notes. Learn from the best and maybe you’ll be that someone the next generation looks up to when they dream of their own career. #inspiration #legend #legacy #music #studiolife
